Welcome to Our Blog!

We just made the Wabi-Sabi Wedding Day event on Facebook, so we thought we'd make a "Welcome!" post. :)

First off, what is Wabi-Sabi? It's a Japanese term that doesn't have an English translation. According to Wikipedia:
"In today's Japan, the meaning of wabi sabi is often condensed to ″wisdom in natural simplicity.″ In art books, it is typically defined as ″flawed beauty.

Second, just a short explanation of what we're planning:

  • The date is coming up soon! November 11, 2011 (11/11/11). The date is just irresistible! It's most of the reason we decided to go ahead and tie the knot. :) We've been together 6 years now and we've already considered ourselves married for most of it. This is the only 11/11/11 we're going to get though, so we might as well make it official.
  • In the morning, we plan on going to the courthouse to actually sign the papers and make it legal - probably around 11:11 or so. ^_~
  • After that, we would like to have a potluck (no meat please), hopefully in this building at a park near where we live. Maybe we can convince some of our friends who play music to perform for us. :)  We'd also like to decorate, so any free/cheap decorating ideas are welcome! :)
  • We aren't accepting any physical gifts, but you can donate to the "Wedding Fund" (click the "Donate" button on the right of the screen). It would be an awesome gift to have people help with aquiring and setting up decorations, photography, and any other cool wedding stuff.

It's important to mention, though, that this is not your traditional wedding!

The "dress code" is very relaxed - wear whatever feels comfortable, but if "playing dress up" feels comfortable to you, we would be delighted! Even Halloween costumes are welcome! :D

Tracy doesn't have a "wedding dress" picked out yet. She's not really looking for a traditional gown, but something beautiful, hopefully capturing a sort of wabi-sabi aesthetic, is in order. Treavor's uncertain on what he will wear. He says "A white angel costume... I'm gonna be an angel." He then points out that he's kidding, however. So, we'll see what happens there. :)

We would prefer having no ring, no wedding cake, no gifts, no "aisle." It is our special day, but we don't want to be the focus. We just want to be the hosts of a nice get-together of all of our favorite people. :D If you want to comment or have advice for us, we're open for suggestions as well! We're not terribly set in our ways. :)
